- Who can serve legal documents in Pennsylvania?- Under Pennsylvania law, original process generally must be served by the sheriff, unless a court orders otherwise.
- For other documents (subpoenas, notices, etc.), a competent adult who is not a party to the case may often serve them. “Competent adult” means at least 18 years old and legally capable.

- Pennsylvania Process Serving Requirements- In addition to service by the sheriff, original process may be served also by a competent adult in the following actions: equity, partition, prevent waste, and declaratory judgment when declaratory relief is the only relief sought.
